Description
Summary:Development of digital technology gives new possibility of design methods in architecture. Parametric modelling tools software developed as a logical based analyzing system. This tools will act as an architectural form finding agent in 2D and in 3D. Information from the site about site problem and needs are manipulated and processed to produce architectural work that integrated with social and nature phenomenon. This thesis describes how parametric system can be used as a design method to bridge from conceptual design to descriptive results. It also illustrates the use of a parametric system as diagramming tool to explore urban proposition from an urban system. Parametric models were used to develop diagram of site potential through models of people movement and packing algorithm which then represented as design parameter to search for optimal space form. Merdeka Street as a case study examines urban system as self-organising system to respond the segregated commercial district that exists in the area. Movement study leads the design focus on circulation system therefore the space itself is a resultant from circulation experiment. This thesis proposes shopping center as a park and a bridge between primary commercial anchors. Shopping center as a case study was decided because it was seen as a programme that have a strong movement element in circulation that suit to design experiment. It is also a respond to maximize land use development in Merdeka Street as commercial district. The main purpose of this thesis is to describe and gives a recommendation of integrated shopping center in urban structure. Shopping centers are considered to give negative impact on urban fabric. Capitalist domination affecting the use of efficiency parameter and bring down architectural meaning of the building itself. Therefore, it takes an architectoral form that can utilize circulation space as a profitable part in the form of commercial space. Representation of movement will be conducted into three phase of design iteration. First phase is to model pedestrian movement into digital simulation by using agent based modelling analysis tools. Second phase is to transform movement into space planning system in 2d that furthermore will be developed into 3d architectural form by exploring parametric pattern. Last phase will assess value of transformed architectural space by using space syntax tools.
