Summary: | Nyamplung plants (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) is one of the local plants that grow naturally in the South Coast in Purworejo and Kebumen, Central Java. Nyamplung seeds can be converted into biodiesel with a high energy content (40-73) percent and have potentially add value to the village community. Villagers gather fruit nyamplung scattered on the ground and sell it. This study is to understand the social phenomenon of the nyamplung biofuel market emergence with The Actor-Network Theory (ANT) perspective. When ANT study on market emergence, it explores the actor network, calculations and translations of actors. There are signs that the market is emerging. The actors develop calculations of economic, environmental and religious values. But there is no effective calculations that put nyamplung as an energy source. Market exchanges that occur are nyamplung fruit, nyamplung biofuel and nyamplung oil for batik. Specificity that obtained by using ANT perspective in studying the emerging market is: ANT perspective can enrich the institutional approach (Lindbloom, 2002). By following the actors and exploring calculations and translations of actors in emerging market, the values can be revealed. These values may be hidden in the neoclassical perspective.
