Description
Summary:Heavily degraded landscape caused by mining activities has resulted an ecological instability. In order to continue the environmental sustainability, mining site should be reclaimed and rehabilitated once its closed or abandoned. Post-mined land that already lost its original potential value and quality, with a proper planning, design, and management should be able to be redefined and functioned as a new land-use, and gives added value in ecological, social, cultural, economy, and aesthetics. This landscapes can be made into some new land-use such as housing development, agriculture and forestry, and as a tourism and recreation development. The archipelago of Bangka Belitung is known for its productive tin mining industry in the World. Its mining activities has started since long and has become out of control, especially one that are done illegally by the people. Carefully thought plan and designed solution, as well as stakeholder’s involvement and cooperation are needed. The aim of this thesis is to design a post-mined area with a focus in landscape design by giving the site a new land-use and function, a design that works well and in sync with the site rehabilitation process. TB. 1.42 Pemali, a tin mining site operated by PT Timah is located in Desa Pemali, in the district of Sungai Liat, with an area of 181 hectare, for this active mine, some assumption about its mine closure plan are necessary. The design of this new tourism development are done with some considerations, this includes the existing site condition, governmental regulations and development plan, local tourism, as well as its problem and potential of the site. Some of the problems found in this location are, site slope and gradient level, lack of soil nutrient, and poor quality of water and soil. Some approach that are used in the designing process incorporates aspects like, ecology, culture, and education. This new development should promise to be a source of knowledge about reclamation, history, and the culture of Bangka’s mining industry. Design results will covers the site plan of the site, and a few facilities such as, rehabilitation center and wetland bank area, a nursery center, an edu-culture center, water recreational facility, and an area for mining heritage conservation.
