Summary:Earthquake is one of disaster with serious condition that ever happened in the world. Loss caused by the earthquake not only on the material but also makes people died. The phenomenon of earthquakes that frequently occur in Indonesia prompted government to publish a law about building contained in Law Number 28 of 2002, one of the points that consist in this law that the government recommends periodical check every building in referred to residence. Vernacular house with wood material has become majority of the people in Indonesia including South Sulawesi, which has proven resistant to earthquakes. This is because of the vernacular houses were originally built with first class material. The limitation of wood class I such as Ulin wood (Eusideroxylon zwageri) in South Sulawesi push people to change it by wood which has class II and class III like Kumea wood (Manilkara merrilliana). This phenomenon is seen by researchers who want trying to assess the level of endurance of the vernacular houses in South Sulawesi after the presence of changes in the quality structural materials. Method that used in this research by observations where the result being input into the simulation with SAP®200014.0.0 to see endurance level of the vernacular houses that exist now. The results obtained show the building instability on the type of medium soil, in contrast to the hard soil of the building has the good resistance, Its shown by the displacement arises smaller than deviation permits.
