Summary: | Design exploration of active roof is needed because of building use effectiveness demands
that relatively low as in the case of the sports hall in major cities. Pajajaran Sports
Arena, Bandung, is the case study that will be using active roof design then it will able to
provide open space and closed space sports in any weather condition. Opened and closed
roof in sport building requires a movable supporting structure and covers. The roof
movement is concern to orientation of the sun by observing heat and glare as well as
diversity aspect of building activity. Exploration movements of the roof cover using
Ecotect Analysis 2011, Sketch Up, and muck-ups as simulator tools. The simulation
results show that the orientation of the sun’s daily movement should be respond directly
(high rotary speed), while the monthly movement of the sun roof does not require any
significant movement (low rotary speed). Closed sports activity require entire roof is
closed, while open sports activity require open roof minimum at entire filed area. Based
on movement roof structure pattern, the most effective roof to respond sun’s shadow is
curve structure. Structure exploration on curve structure generating collaborative form
between arc structure as main stretch structure and folded plate structure with diamond
pattern as roof cover and secondary stretch structure. To accommodate roof movement,
the main arc must have ability to rotate in its spindle and folded plate structure can be
folded to minimize the secondary stretch. Folded plate movement must using specific
hinges because of suspicion that there is still possibility of two-way movement which can
not be given by regular hinges. Design exploration of active folded plate structure on
Pajajaran Sports Arena’s roof still requires calculation optimization and further study for
development of this structure in the future. |
