Traditional dance is an art which contains cultural values. It’s not only could be interpreted as an art stage performance, but also be transformed into architecture form creatively, to enrich cultural knowledge in architecture perspective. This thesis selected one of popular Aceh’s dance, Saman Gayo, as proposal concept design of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport to represent it as Aceh’s cultural identity. Transforming Saman Gayo dance into architecture could use metaphorical approach to encourage the architect think independently in exploration of representative design. Metaphor of Saman Gayo dance analyzed the tangible and intangible factors of the dance in two design strategies : as mass forming and sequences. Mass forming strategy presenting the visual characteristics of Saman Gayo dance. Sequence strategy presenting sequence of Saman Gayo dance episodes performance in the form of sequential space. Furthermore, exploration of representative design in metaphor process would be iterated continuously with conformation functional aspect as design assessment. The result of this method is users could experience the ambience of Saman Gayo dance in Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport architecture design.
