VARIATION OF VOLUME TRANSPORT IN KARIMATA STRAIT AND GASPAR STRAIT DURING 2010-2014 IWAN PRAMESTI ANWAR

Water volume transport variability in Karimata Strait and Gaspar Strait from 1 January 2013 - 31 Desember 2014 was studied using data from Hamburg Shelf Ocean Model (HAMSOM) simulation. Area of model is located at 1°0’0” S-4°60’0” S and 104°0’15” E- 110°30’0” E with 0,5' horizontal resolution grid. The area was divided into 23 vertical layers with maximum depth of 70,5 m and 3 m interval. The calculation result shows that the mean of total mass transport that flows through Karimata Strait and Gaspar Strait is -0,23 Sv and -0,16 Sv (negative shows southward transport). On that period, there was no strong La Niña or El Niño, which indicates that the mass transport was more influenced by monsun. It is clearly showed that the transport direction is changed seasonally. In boreal winter (December - February), mean mass transport value is -0,64 Sv in Karimata Strait and -0,61 Sv in Gaspar Strait while the mean mass transport value in boreal summer is +0,19 Sv in Karimata Strait and +0,17 Sv in Gaspar Strait. It shows that there is part of Indonesian Through Flow (ITF) that flow through Gaspar Strait and Karimata Strait into Java Sea.
