PERUBAHAN DISTRIBUSI MASSA AIR DI PERAIRAN BARAT SUMATRA BERDASARKAN METODE OPTIMUM MULTI PARAMETER

The territorial waters of western Sumatra affected by phenomenon in the Indian Ocean, as Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), upwelling, and monsoon winds. In this research, water mass identified based on the distribution of water mass in eastern Indian Ocean, especially in western Sumatra. Water mass analysi...

In this research, water mass identified based on the distribution of water mass in eastern Indian Ocean, especially in western Sumatra. Water mass analysis in this research using Optimum Multi Parameter (OMP) method with the source of water mass is Bengal Bay Water (BBW), South Indian Central Water (SICW), dan Indian Equatorial Water (IEW). Parameter used is temperature and salinity were obtained from Kaiyo and Mirai Cruise, and World Ocean Database (WOD). Based on the result of research note that BBW with percentage more than 90% generally identified at the surface to a depth of 160 m. SICW having a maximum percentage 60-80% at a depth of 80 – 280 m. While IEW with percentage more than 90% at the depth of 480 – 1130 m. IEW in northern Indian Ocean more deeper than southern, due to BBW in the north has a lighter density, so that IEW with heavier density is deeper in the northern Indian Ocean. text
