Description
Summary:Diesel locomotive are manufactured to facilitate human work, so it is expected that the components are designed effectively and efficiently and use quality and durable materials. Nowadays many manufacturers of auto spareparts are popping up by offering a selling price of 50% to 100% with quality competing from other spare parts. Therefore, each plant that produces Connecting Rod has different properties so it is necessary to conduct research of connecting rod selection in accordance with the specifications, especially material specifications. This study begins with a study of literature derived from books and journals related to this research. Then the OES test to determine the element composition of the specimen. After that was done a micro vickers hardness test. Finally, microstructure observation of the specimen was observed. From the results of research that has been done, it can be concluded several things, the type of material used is medium carbon steel AISI 1040. Then the manufacturing process used is forging. And after comparison with the literature, connecting rod components have been in accordance with the material specifications that can be used.
