Because on this condition, the optimum hardness can occur due to the hardness of a compound in it which accommodates the hardness of this material. These compounds known as carbides. Carbides have several important aspects that affect their hardness, such as the types, shapes, sizes, and the distributions of the carbides. In this research, microstructure of high speed steel AISI M35 that distributed and with additional conventional heat treated will be identified by using metallographic technique to observe the carbides appearance on this material. The etching solutions that will be used on this technique is Nital and Murakami’s reagent. Where both of these solutions will show the types, shapes, and the distributions of several types of carbides that exist on High-Speed Steel AISI M35. To observe the effect of the heat treatment given to the material to their carbides types, shapes, sizes, and distributions, mechanical testing also implemented to see the effect on the hardness of the material. In addition, on this study, to complete the process of identification of carbides with its effect on the heat treatment given, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization also done. text |
