Summary: | According to data collected from 9 provinces in Indonesia in 2009, there are 299.203 disabled people. Majority of them (21,86%) are suffering from leg disability. Those people, whose legs are disabled, need some kind of supporting equipment/device to help them walk in order to ease them do their daily activities. Many supporting devices have been established in the current market from walking stick, wheelchair, to hand bike / hand cycle. However, those things do have their own strong and weak point from mobility and compactness perspective. Transformer Hand Bike is a supporting device with 3 modes of transportation (hand bike, wheelchair, and compact modes) designed for people with leg disability paddled with hands. Redesign on the product handle was done with design for manufacture and assembly method which was developed by Boothroyd and Dewhurst. The result are three handle alternatives with an increase of about 100% in manufacture and assembly aspects. The best alternative managed to get an increase up to 118%. |
