AIR COMBAT MANEUVER GUIDANCE SYSTEM FOR UCAV USING NEUTRAL-ADVANTAGE-DISADVANTAGE-MUTUAL DISADVANTAGE (NADM) APPROACH

During a combat situation, a UCAV must execute the best possible maneuver based on the results of former threat assessment process. For this reason, featuring a UCAV with a reliable threat assessment and decision making program as an integrated system is considered essential. This study aims to implement a threat assessment and decision making system to a UCAV and evaluate the performance of the assigned program which is established in the form of Neutral-Advantage-Disadvantage-Mutual Disadvantage (NADM) method. First, a transformation process is conducted in order to gain combat parameters from the currently known aircraft state variables which were obtained from a state-space modeled aircraft. The obtained combat parameters are then presented to the NADM threat assessment program as inputs. After the assessment process is carried out, a decision making algorithm based on a predictive control scheme determines the best set of command inputs for the UCAV in order to achieve the desired combat situation through executed maneuvers. Comparison between the results of simulations and a set of provided reference conditions is later conducted. Finally, discussions regarding these results is presented. The simulation results show that the UCAV successfully execute all commands assigned by the NADM program. However, the results also implicate several problems within the NADM method as a threat assessment and decision making tool. text
