The existence and sustainability of a wind power plant is determined by
appropriate sitting that is based on accurate and high temporal resolution wind
speed data. Since the error value of estimated wind energy potential will be
greater along with the greater gap in the temporal resolution of used data. The
appropriate data to assess wind energy potential is data which has the resolution
of 1 minute to 1 hour. Puslitbangtek Ketenagalistrikan, Energi Baru Terbarukan
dan Konservasi Energi – Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral
(P3TKEBTKE-KESDM) has conducted the wind speed data retrieval in
Probolinggo with sufficient temporal resolution (10 minutes). Probolinggo is an
area with relative high wind speeds. Therefore, this study aims to determine the
potential of wind energy in Probolinggo.
Analysis of wind energy potential in Probolinggo is divided into two stages:
analyzing wind characteristics with surface observation data, and calculating the
wind energy potential by simulation in Wind Atlas Analysis and Application
Program (WAsP) model. In analyzing the wind characteristics, the Weibull
distribution method is used and the result of wind characteristics will also be
required to determine the reference turbine type that will be used for the
simulation. WAsP model run by using input data in the form of vector maps, maps
of the surface roughness, and wind speed data of Probolinggo in January-
December, 2012.
In Probolinggo, the wind speed at all heights is eligible for the requirements of
wind turbines class IV. At a height of 50 meters, Excel 10 wind turbines that are
used as reference in this study can operate throughout the year at the sites.
Simulations using WASP model generate annual wind power density of 1397
W/m2 and the annual energy production of 53.329 MWh. |
