To improve resistance to cracks, toughness should be improved. The two-stage heat treatment process is a very effective process to increase its toughness value. In this study, 2 types of two-stage heat treatment have been carried out. The heat treatment carried out in the first stage was carried out at a temperature of 625? and 663? for 3 hours. Followed by the second stage heating at a temperature of 1000? for 1.5 hours. Then do quench the flowing water. In the first stage, carbide is transformed into spherical shape and perlite formed due to step by step growth of ferrite nucleus and cementite nucleus with lateral movement. And in stage two, perlite in the form of lamella will turn into fine austenite with fine carbide colonies called dispersed hardened austenite. Increased toughness of manganese steel occurs due carbide in the as cast has been transformed into a small size with a round shape and transformation of perlite into fine austenite grains after two stages of heat treatment. text |
