It’s resistant to corrosion in seawater environments making this alloy suitable for ship construction. The type of welding commonly used in shipbuilding is fusion welding. This research simulates the GTAW welding of aluminium 5052 using ER-5356 filler metal. The parameters used in the study are heat input with butt-weld joint design. The quality of welds is tested by tensile, hardness, analysis of micro and macro structures in each of the welding results. The highest UTS value is 145 MPa reached at 11% of ß (Al3Mg2) phase, and the lowest was 61 MPa with 15% ß (Al3Mg2) phase. The highest hardness values is 65 HV obtained in weld metal. However at the HAZ and base metal have same hardness value around of 51 HV. The microstructure of the weld area is dendritic and equiaxial in the HAZ region. There are welding defects in the form of porosity and incomplete penetration. text
