However, the effect of heat when welding makes changes in metallurgical characteristics between the two different metals and due to this there is a difference in the optimal conditions between the two steels. To overcome this phenomenon, optimal heat treatment is needed namely preheat and Post-Welding Heat Treatment / PWHT. The purpose of this study was to analyze the toughness and morphology of welds and HAZ on austenitic stainless steels with preheat variation (none, 100oC, 150oC, 200oC) and PWHT (none, 450oC, 520oC) through impact testing, hardness, microstructure characterization with microscope optics and SEM / EDS. It was found that the preheat and PWHT variations given did not significantly affect the toughness of welding. It can be seen that the resulting fractures are all tenacious. The results of the microstructure obtained showed no adverse phases such as carbide and sigma phase. In addition, the results of SEM / EDS show an indication of carbide formation at the grain boundary. text |
