Description
Summary:Aluminium type 5052 or AlMg2,5 is one of the materials used in heat exchanger components such as fan blade. The fan blade formed and joined by resistance spot welding and gas tungsten arc welding. In welding, heat input affects mechanical properties and physical properties of weld metal. In this research the parameters are welding current and welding time.. Tensile shear test and hardness test have been used to evaluate the mechanical properties of weld metal. All of specimen failed by interface failure in weld metal during tensile shear tests. The strength of weld metal is affected indirectly by heat input, but welding current, welding time and weld defects. Tensile shear strength of specimens are around 110-125 MPa and higher than tensile shear strength of base metal (62,5 MPa). Hardness test also applied to examine mechanical properties of material at weld metal, HAZ and base metal. The hardnesses of these regions are relatively equal about 45 – 55 HV. Microstructure analysis is used to examine grain shape and defects in weld metal. Defects in weld metal consist of expulsion, porosity, lack of fusion and crack, because Al5052 is sensitive to crack when resistance spot welded.
