This family is commonly found in tropical country such as Indonesia. Swietenia is a genus that can be found in meliaceae family. Swietenia’s timber is commonly used as furniture. Swietenia mahagoni or known as mahogany is one species from the Swietenia genus. That is commonly found in Indonesia. This plant is known contains various secondary metabolites like terpenoid, flavonoid, and steroid. Limonoid that is extracted from S. mahagoni is reported contains of an interesting bioactivity such as antidiabetic, antimalarial, and antiinflamation. The isolation of the secondary metabolite from S. mahagoni seed has been conducted in this research. The isolation of the secondary metabolite is conducted by using separation and purification techniques which include exctraction with methanol and various chromatographic techniques such as vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC), gravity column chromatography (GCC), radial chromatography (RC), and thin layer chromatography (TLC). There is one pure compound has been isolated from methanolic-exctract of mahogany seed. Structure of the compound is determined based on spectroscopic data and 1D NMR (1H, 13C, and DEPT 135) and 2D NMR (HSQC and HMBC) spectra. This compound is identified as swietmanin K . This compound is reported to be isolated from the Swietenia genus for the first time. The outcome of this research is expected to give a contribution to the plant-phytochemistry- discussion in Indonesia specifically for Swietenia genus. text
