Description
Summary:Chrome-contained wastewater treatment has been conducted until now. One kind of treatment available is precipitation, but this treatment method has not reached satisfying result. This study was conducted to find chrome removal efficiency from printing industry wastewater with precipitation process in optimum condition to achieve industrial wastewater quality standards. Precipitation consists of three phase, which are reduction, precipitation (neutralization) and sedimentation. This study was divided into two experiment steps, which are experiment using synthetic wastewater and experiment using printing industry wastewater. Experiment with synthetic wastewater was done using chromium synthetic wastewater with 3 variation tests to find optimum condition, which are reduction reagent dose, precipitation process pH, reagen variation, and the optimum condition will be tested on synthetic wastewater’s initial chrome concentration variation. Through this experiment using chosen variation, as a result reagent dosage of 100 mg/L, pH of 9, and sodium metabisulfite reagent usage was found as optimal condition for synthetic wastewater precipitation process. The result from this study was used for experiment using wastewater from printing industry. The result from printing industry wastewater treatment using precipitation with optimum condition are chrome removal efficiency 98.63% and chrome concentration 0.0119 mg/L. The chrome concentration value has met industrial wastewater quality standard based on SK Gub No.6 year 1999 for chromium (0.5 mg/L). Factors affecting precipitation process for printing industry wastewater are metal solubility in solution, organic matter forming complex substance, and metals other than chromium contained in printing industry wastewater.
