Description
Summary:This study is conducted in MDA Field, Northeast Java Basin, East Madura Strait, East Java. The Northeast Java Basin is one of hydrocarbon producing basins in Indonesia. In MDA Field, there is a formation that contains thick interval of fine grained sediment, named Lidah Formation, that has potential to cause overpressure. This study discusses characteristics of overpressure and its generating mechanism in the MDA Field. This study uses data from five wells. Overpressure characteristic is known by processing and analyzing pore pressure data, mudweight data, drilling events, and wireline log data. Characteristic of pore pressure is obtained by correlating the top of overpressure at each well. Generating mechanism of overpressure is analyzed from the changes of pore pressure characteristic, pattern of wireline log data, and burial history. The result of the analysis shows that overpressure condition occurs in every well. The top of overpressure in each well ranges from 1830 – 2312 ft from seabed. Overpressure occurrence is influenced by geological condition, i.e. thick interval of claystone in Lidah Formation sedimented rapidly. The generating mechanism of overpressure in the study area is categorized as loading mechanism.
