The research was done in an area of 56 km2, geographically located at 0o 26’ 35,9” LS – 0o 30’ 23,9” LS and 117o 13’ 28,8” BT – 117o 09’ 10,06” BT inside Kutai Basin. Research area consist of three geomorphological units, these are Jawabaru Homocline Hills Unit, Mugirejo Syncline Hills Unit, and Karangmumus Alluvial Plain Unit with mature - old geomorphic stage. The stratigraphy of research area from the oldest consist of four units, these are Claystone – Sandstone Unit with middle neritic depositional environment, Sandstone – Claystone Unit with delta front depositional environment, Sandstone Unit with delta plain depositional environment, and Alluvial Deposit Unit. Based on lithological characteristics and depositional environment, Claystone – Sandstone Unit is comparable with Pulau Balang Formation aged Early Miocene, Sandstone – Claystone Unit and Sandstone Unit is comparable with Mentawir Formation aged Middle Miocene. Geological structures that created in the research area are fault and fold. Fault in the research area is Gununglingai Left Thrust Slip Fault, while fold in the research area is Lubuksawah Syncline. Main stress trend which created structural geology in the research area is northwest – southeast resulting in a fault and fold with northeast – southwest trend text
