Summary: | The development of industry along the main road of Rancaekek-Cicalengka has affected the water quality of surface water and sediments in the vicinity, one of which affected is well water. In the process of industrial production, heavy metals, especially cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), and zinc (Zn) are used in the process of dyeing, printing, coating, etc. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyse the metal content of Cd, Cu, Cr, and Zn in the wells and determine the impact of the heavy metals for the residents who use the water wells. Concentrations of heavy metals were analysed using Inductively Couple Plasma tool with Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Sample preparation is done with a aqua regia destruction method.Citizen health data obtained through questionnaire method and compared with the population health data from the local health center. The results showed that the concentration of the metal in the well after receiving industrial effluent increased high; before receiving the effluent range: 0.0006 ppm to 0.0011 ppm (Cd), 0.0018 ppm to 0.0036 ppm (Cr), 0.0072 ppm to 0.0117 ppm (Cu), and 0.0342 ppm up to 0.0535 ppm (Zn); whereas after receiving effluent: 0.0012 ppm to 0.0061 ppm (Cd), 0.0071 ppm to 0.0455 ppm (Cr), 0.0211 ppm to 0.0650 ppm (Cu), and 0.0360 ppm to 0.2964 ppm (Zn ). From these data, it appears that the concentration of the metal increased obviously after passing through an industrial area. From the analysis of the results of the questionnaire clearly showed that industrial waste impacts for the health of majority of well users. The majority of the well users have complaints dermatitis (itchy, dry skin, and also red freckle spot) due to the use of well water for bath, washing and latrine. |
