The increasing number of tourists causes the manager, PT. Sari Ater, to build a new facility in a resort hotel typology. The main concern of this project is how to create a design which will give a positive impact to the environment and also for the Ciater community itself. Therefore, the development of this project refers to the principle of ecotourism. The project, built on an area of 57,000 m2, consists of 23 villas, supporting facilities, and public facilities. The design of this project is based on three main issues, those are environmental, privacy, and ambience issues. These issues are responded with a general concept, namely Tranquil Coexistence of Nature and Architecture which means harmony between architecture and its environment. The main concept of this project is implemented through architectural, environmental, and social and cultural approach. The concept of the building in this project is adapting the Sundanese Architecture. To shape the place ambience, every building in this project is made almost transparent with many openings. The building is also grouped by its function to maintain the privacy. This project use local materials such as pine wood and fibers. In the public area, there is a hot spring area which consists of small ponds to be more private. This concept becomes the basic guidelines for resort design as well as an effort to conserve the nature and develop the economic and social conditions of the surrounding communities. This is done in order to preserve the environment, increase the potential of Ciater hot spring tourism, and improve the welfare of the surrounding community along with the increasing number of visitors who come to this region. text
