Zeolite synthesis usually employs organic compound as SDA (Structure Directing Agent) based on quaternary ammonium cationic compound. In order to maximize the utilities of zeolite as catalysis, the organic compound within the pores must be combusted, therefore considering zeolite with SDA as uneconomical and environmentally unfriendly. In this research, ZSM-5 (MFI framework type) was synthesized without SDA with economical hydrothermal process. The precursors used in the synthesis process were CabOSil, NaOH, Al(OH)3, and water. X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Nitrogen Physisorption were applied to characterize synthesized zeolite. Zeolite synthesis with Si/Al = 16 at 175 °C was successful with the existence of ZSM-5 and mixture of clay. By varying synthesis parameter, pure ZSM-5 was obtained at Si/Al = 16, Na/Si = 0,17 dan OH/Si = 0,17 at a lower temperature of 150 °C and was also optimized by using a tumbling oven. From BET and BJH analysis, surface area total of ZSM-5 was obtained at 304,767 m2/g, pore volume was obtained at 0,028 cm3/g and pore size obtained was 3,01 nm. Therefore, the synthesized ZSM-5 has the property of mesoporous pores. text
