Classical methods of synthesis of this compound was carried out by reacting copper (II) sulphate pentahydrate with phthalic anhydride and urea; however, this method is less effective. In this research, NH4Cl and NaCl salt as well as ammonia solution (25%) were added to improve the effectiveness of the reaction. The three reagents were added to each of the classical method and three products of different colour were obtained. The synthesized products have been characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy and FT-IR. Typical IR spectral data obtained in the wave number 1640.78 and 1391.01 cm-1 which indicates vibrations of C = C and C=N on the aromatic ring. Peak at 2820.79 cm-1 shows the aromatic C-H vibration. The peak appears at 3461.23 cm-1 and 1755.26 cm-1 corresponds to the vibration of N-H in heteroaromatic ring and vibration C=O, respectively. Greatest yield of as much as 80.54% (w/w) obtained in a mixture with the addition of reagent solution of NH3 (25%) were heated using an oven for 3 hours at a temperature of 120oC.
