EVALUASI PENYISIHAN KANDUNGAN ORGANIK PADA AIR LIMBAH DOMESTIK GREYWATER DENGAN TEKNOLOGI HORIZONTAL SUBSURFACE FLOW CONSTRUCTED WETLAND MENGGUNAKAN Iris martinicensis DAN Pontederia cordata
Previous studies for years have shown the capability of constructed wetland in treating greywater. Types of vegetation that commonly used for constructed wetland are Canna indica, Typha angustifolia, Cyperus papyrus, Iris pseudacorus, etc. The species of Iris which is common in Indonesia is Iris mar...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/34529 Previous studies for years have shown the capability of constructed wetland in treating greywater. Types of vegetation that commonly used for constructed wetland are Canna indica, Typha angustifolia, Cyperus papyrus, Iris pseudacorus, etc. The species of Iris which is common in Indonesia is Iris martinicensis which has similarities with Iris pseudacorus. This study aims to determine the ability of Iris martinicensis as constructed wetland vegetation to reduce organic matter from greywater with Pontederia cordata planted reactor as comparison. Two reactors with surface area 0.55m2 for each reactor were operated in parallel from August to December 2014 with hydraulic retention time (HRT) varies from 1 day, 3 days, and 5 days. Greywater was generated from household with 5 person and BOD5 loading rate varies from 0.008 to 0.052 kg/m2day. COD values in the inlet were around 390-494 mg/L, total solid 172-561 mg/L, total Nitrogen 6-15 mg/L, and total phosphate around 0.3-12 mg/L. The highest COD removal efficiency (85.375%) occurred in HRT 3 days, as well as the Pontederia cordata planted reactor (85.715%). The highest TSS removal efficiency (97.097%) occurred in HRT 1 day, as well as the Pontederia cordata planted reactor (98.831%). The highest removal efficiency of total nitrogen (72.363%) occurred in HRT 3 days, while the efficiency of the Pontederia cordata planted reactor (83.556%) occurred in HRT 5 days. The highest removal efficiency of total phosphate (75.391%) occurred in HRT 1 day, as well as the Pontederia cordata planted reactor (71.129%). In general, the Iris martinicensis planted reactor could perform organic removal efficiency as well as Pontederia cordata planted reactor and could degrade organic parameters to meet the quality standards. This suggests that Iris martinicensis can be used in treating wastewater, especially with constructed wetland technology, regarding its capability in pollutant removal and its ability to grow in wet condition. text |
