This species is traditionally used by Indonesian to cure digestive disorders, fever, and headache. Jayanti can grow well in tropical to subtropical regions such as Asia and Africa. Based on literature, qualitative analysis of the methanol extract of leaves of S. sesban showed that it contained flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and glycosides. In addition, the activity assay of extracts from different tissues of this species showed antimalarial, antitumor, and antidiabetic activity (leaf and seed extract), antioxidants (flower extract), and analgesic (wood extract). Although the extracts of S. sesban parts showed interesting activities, the active constituents from parts of S. sesban has not been widely reported. Therefore, this research was carried out to isolate the secondary metabolites from the methanol extract of leaves of S. sesban growing in Indonesia and determined its antimalarial activity and cytotoxicity against leukemia murine cell P-388. One compound has been isolated and identified as 3-hydroxy-4',7--dimethoxyflavone. This compound was obtained through the separation of the methanol extract using various chromatographic techniques, such as vacuum liquid chromatography and radial chromatography. The structure of the isolated compounds was elucidated based on lD NMR CH-NMR and 13C-NMR) and 2D NMR : HMBC. Antimalarial activity assay of methanol extracts showed high activity with IC50 6.02and the cytotoxicity of 3-hydroxy-4',7- dimethoxyflavone against murine leukemia P-388 cells showed IC50 5.40 -tglmL (not active). text |
