Description
Summary:Each year, the increase in the number of motorcoaches in Indonesia is offset by an increase in the number of accidents. One of the frequent accidents in a motorcoach is the frontal collision. Collisions on the vehicle can cause minor injuries to death. One of the most common injuries is head injury. Head Injury Criterion (HIC) is a parameter to measure impact severity of head. According to FMVSS 208, a federal regulation in United States of America which regulates occupant crash protection, HIC value allowed is 700. The head injury analysis in this thesis consists of two simulations, namely full-scale barrier test and sled test. Full-scale barrier test shows the deceleration curve experienced by the motorcoach. Furthermore, the deceleration curve is applied to the test of the sled test with dummy to obtain the HIC value. Full-scale barrier test simulation results show the deceleration and acceleration speed of 48 km/hour to 0 km/hour. This is because the absorption of energy occurs only in the motorcoach superstructure and the buckling of structure occurs continuously. From the results of sled test simulation without using seatbelt, the highest HIC value is found in passengers in seating rows 6, because of the ejection of passenger, and the lowest HIC is in seating rows 12, because the dummy is flying. As for the highest HIC value with lap seatbelt found on the passengers in seating row 6 because the head of dummy collides on the front seat and also in seating row 12 because the duration of deceleration is long. Moreover, by using a combination of lap and shoulder seatbelt, the highest HIC value found in seating row 12 because of the repetition of the dummy head movement.
