Description
Summary:The development of urban architecture runs fast and dynamic. It is often run partially, not integrated, and cause the degradation of the identity and character of an urban space itself. This was also happening in a triangular block of Tunjungan Surabaya. In the early days, precisely during the period of the Dutch government, architectures of Tunjungan district were designed in harmony and fully integrated. The commercial character of the area becomes very bold and strong. In line with urban development, there are some degradation phenomena. There are, such as an increase in the intensity of private vehicle usage, modern architecture movement that tends individualistic, partial renewal of land use, and also the privatization of public space. Some part of the area becomes unidentified and lose their positive impact (lost space). As part of collective urban fabric, it needs to be integrated, mainly on its linkage, including 3 elements, order - visual, connection - movement, and also function - identity. That kind of connection will be strengthened through the lost space reinterpretation design process, with main consideration of their history, city culture, and their presence of the surrounding. The vision of all of this process, is to emphasize the character of the area, that has been degraded nowadays.
