Description
Summary:Indonesia has issued various forms of good pieces of money made of paper or metal. For the coin, there is made of nickel, brass and aluminum. This coin is one of the things that we often use as a tool of trade in our economic system. However, in the process of making the cost of printing the coin is even more expensive than the value of its own currency. Of this issue to think about how to make money is by lowering the cost of metal printing and can enhance the quality of the appearance of these coins with a lower printing costs of the value of its currency. One idea to solve this problem is to coat the coins are made of aluminum with nickel metal that is shiny or a process called electrolysis. Electrolysis is a chemical process in which changes electrical energy into chemical energy. Electrolysis process is widely applied in many fields including industrial, chemical, metallurgy and physics. One application of this process is electroplating. Simply put, electroplating can be interpreted as a process of coating metal using electric current, and certain chemical compounds in order to move the metal particles into the coating material is coated want. Based on the results of the study, at first nickel metal has been successfully coated on aluminum plate in which the first aluminum plate was anodized then coated with copper metal and finally coated with nickel metal. The size of the copper plate, aluminum, and nickel used is 7.0 cm x 1.5 cm. Aluminum anodizing process must be done first so that copper metal is deposited on the aluminum can be attached firmly and not easily fall out. This is because the Al2O3 layer on the surface of the aluminum anodizing process that has been experienced. Anodizing of aluminum is done by merging two stages of chemical and electrochemical stages. In the chemical stage is done by dipping the aluminum plate in a solution of 1 M H2SO4 warm and 1 M NaOH solution respectively - each for 5 minutes. At this stage of electrolysis aluminum plate electrochemical done that has undergone chemical phase with electrolyte solution is a solution of 1 M H2SO4 for 10 minutes using a voltage of 5 V. Furthermore aluminum plate which has undergone a process of anodizing used for coating of metallic copper. Copper plating performed for 20 minutes using artificial waterbath temperature of 43°C. Electrolyte solution used is a solution of Cu2+ was added a solution of 0.8 M glucose solution supporting a total of 20 ppm and 15 mL of 1 M H2SO4 solution as much as 5 mL. Advocates the use of this solution has the goal of keeping the copper deposit has a nice color and shape and satisfying. Electroplating is done by using a DC current of 0.3 A is obtained from the power supply. The results of the copper coating is then used in nickel plating. Nickel plating is used on Watts electrolyte solution containing a mixture solution of 0.8 M NiSO4, NiCl2 0.25 M and 0.8 M H3BO3 which has a pH of 4,1 – 4,2. Electroplating process lasted for 20 minutes with a temperature of 43°C waterbath and the use of DC power supply current of 0.05 A. Of this condition is then performed on the nickel plating aluminum coins with denominations of Rp. 500 and has been successfully performed.
