However, hydrogen consumptions typically on vehicles is relatively small. This is caused by the hydrogen storage technology as a light, inexpensive and safe fuel is very limited. In this research, it has been synthesized a metal organic frameworks (MOFs) of complex compounds based carboxylate which can be used as hydrogen storage. The MOFs was made of niobium (V) oxide (Nb2O5) and benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (BDC) in dimethyl formamide (DMF) solvent. The Nb2O5 solution reacted with BDC solution in a solvothermal apparatus at 180oC for 20 hours. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated slowly yield the yellowish powder. The product was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) method, infra red spectrophotometry, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The X-ray diffraction results the sharp peaks diffractogram. This shows that the compound has a crystallinity. Refinement by Le Bail method of X-ray diffraction data indicates that the complex has similar crystal system with PCN-12 (PCN = porous coordination network) compound that possesses tetragonal shape with space group of P4/mmm, a = b = 32.868, c = 22.627, ? = ? = ? = 90o. The presence of carbonyl group and benzene ring has been proved by IR spectrum in which the stretching of C=O, C-H aromatic, and C=C aromatic at 1602.2 cm-1 and 1714.1 cm-1; 3105.1 cm-1; and 1402.7 cm-1 respectively. Analysis using SEM showed that the product has irregular cubic crystal, with a length of 40 ?m and 15 ?m wide. text |
