Description
Summary:Demonstration is a learning method that attract attention, create curiosity and make learning as a necessity. Demonstration of hydrogen gas is necessary because hydrogen gas is an environmental friendly future fuel. In this research, the demonstration focused on the synthesis and storage of hydrogen gas. The hydrogen gas was made from alkaline reaction of aluminium metal. The aluminium was obtained from food packaging. The hydrogen gas was stored in a rubber balloon and foam soap-shaped pillars. The rubber balloon with 2.2 g mass containing hydrogen can fly into the air, using at least 1.5 g Al with NaOH solution (7,2 g, 0,18 mol) diluted 90 mL of water by means of erlenmeyer equipped column with 40 cm high. To prepare 1 m-tall hydrogen pillar demonstration required minimal 1 g aluminium with NaOH solution (4,8 g, 0,12 mol) diluted in 60 mL of water in 5 mL of a mixture which is formed from 6 g of glyserin and 10 g of liquid soap. Hydrogen pillars with formed through cylinder 10 cm height and 3.5 cm diameter. The hydrogen demonstrations can be used as a teaching aid associated with the stoichiometry, redox reactions and main group elements.
