Summary:Human life has never been separated from the needs of resource. They used it as the source of medicine, food, and building materials. The fulfillment of those needs as usually related to the about many things which encompasses the knowledge of local name, usage, and land use where the plants are planted or found. That kind of knowledge could still be found in traditional communities whose needs still very dependent on local natural resource. The people of Kampung Dukuh , Garut, West Java are among the people who still use this knowledge. This final assigment is conducted to evaluate the level of plant resource utilization by local people of Kampung Dukuh for medicine, food, and building materials. The role of land in fulfilling the needs of those resources were also evaluated. Qualitative and quantitative methode were used. Quantitative methode was used the preliminary observation to dig the knowledge of local people about land use and plant utilization in general. Quantitative methode was used after the preliminary observe. This methode include the gathering of data about local name, used part, the frequency, and amount of medicinal, foods, and building materials by semi structure and structured interview. 16 people classified under 3 groups (village elder, public figure, and young adult figure) elder were being interviewed. The collection of data plant specimens were taken directly from its locality, sieded by keynote informant. Vegetation analyzis was conducted in the two types of lands utilized by local people, huma (unirrigated agricultural field) and kebon (agricultural garden). Plants samples were identified in Herbarium Bandungense SITH-ITB. The result showed that people of Kampung Dukuh classified land use into three categories, larangan, titipan, and production. For plant usage, the people of kampung Dukuh recognize 131 species of plant (106 species were taken from huma and kebon), 93 species of food plants (87 species were taken from huma and kebon), and 31 species of building material plants (all taken from huma and kebon). Other useful plants were taken from buruan (yard) and serang (wet rice field). The plant’s parts being used for medicine are 56 leaves, 10 roots, 10 seeds, 20 fruits, 4 flowers, 10 rhizomes, 10 stems, and 6 tubers. The plant’s parts being used for food are 41 fruits, 5 tubers, 6 seeds, 4 rhizomes, 8 stems and leaves. The plant’s part being used for building material are 21 woods which used after 10 years, 3 wood after 5 years, and 8 bamboo after 3 years. Vegetation analyzis show the different of vegatation compositions. 105 plants in huma (55 plants were useful for people in Kampung Dukuh), 87 plants in kebon (49 plants were useful for people in Kampung Dukuh). In conclusion, huma and kebon have important usage to fulfill the needs of plants resource in traditional people in Kampung Dukuh.
