THE SYNTHESIS OF FE2O3/CEO2/AL2O3 CATALYST FOR FISCHER-TROPSCH REACTION

Fischer Tropsch Reaction is one of many solutions that can be used to solve fuel shortage by synthesizing liquid fuel from synthetic gas (syngas). Catalyst is the key of Fischer-Tropsch reaction that regulate the reaction rate and selectivity so it is a need to develop an active and selective cataly...

Catalyst is the key of Fischer-Tropsch reaction that regulate the reaction rate and selectivity so it is a need to develop an active and selective catalyst. The research aim was to develop iron based Fischer-Tropsch catalysts via 2 synthesis routes. In the first route, catalyst supports (CeO2/Al2O3) were synthesized using hydrothermal method followed by impregnation of Fe(NO3)3, while in the second route, the whole catalysts were synthesized in 1 step using hydrothermal method. The synthesized Fe2O3/CeO2/Al2O3 catalyst had weight ratio of 10:5:85 with surface area reached 94,3 m2/g based on Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method surface area analysis results, respectively. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) showed that the catalysts had rod structures with diameter of 300-700 nm and 5-10?m long. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) diffractograms showed the formation of ?-Al2O3 at calcination temperature of 900 oC, while the Temperature Programmed Reduction and Desorption (TPR/TPD) showed the catalysts reduction temperature by H2 were at the range of 300-600 oC. text
