ENCAPSULATED BANANAâS (MUSA PARADISIACA) PEEL POWDER AS BIOADSORBENT FOR PB (II) METAL ION
Encapsulation is a technique used to wrap active materials using polimer as a coating agent. In this research, banana’s peel powder was encapsulated with calcium alginate. Spherical calcium alginate is produced by mixing sodium alginate with calcium chloride respectively as much as 3% (w/v). Composi...

Composition ratio between the sodium alginate and banana’s peel powder with the best adsorption capacity are 2:1 ratio. Besides structure characterization using infrared spectrophotometry, retention properties of encapsulated banana’s peel powder towards Pb(II) metal ion, has been charaterized with batch method. Parameters of that retention properties include the effect of pH, contact time, and adsorption capacity has been studied. Characterization result indicate that banana’s peel powder capsule can adsorp up to 9.00 mg Pb2+/gram capsule at pH 7.05 with a contact time not more than 40 minutes. Evaluation using adsorption isotherm of Langmuir and Freundlich showed that adsorption process obey to these two type of isotherms. text |
