Description
Summary:Spinach leaves (Amaranthus Spec div) contains chlorophyll and carotenoid colour pigments. Separation of the pigments could be performed on column chromatography based on adsorption. Thus, a study of the colour pigment sorption on adsorbent is needed. This research is aimed to study the sorption power of spinach extract on dolomite sands. Morphology and porosity of sands were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Chemical compositions of the sands were analyzed using Electron Dispersive X- Ray spectroscopy. The spinach was extracted using water. Ca, Mg, and Fe contents of the spinach leaves was determined using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The spinach extract adsorbed on varied mass of sands using batch method. The adsorption capacity was determined using UV- Vis spectrophotometric methods. The adsorbent sands was characterized using Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR). Negative adsorption was observed, indicating that increased concentration of adsorbate (spinach extract) was detected after the adsorption process on adsorbent (sands).
