INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/34837 Organic waste is one of the most dominant in composition, especially in this city, Bandung. Therefore, a further treatment is needed in order to cultivate organic waste right from its source. In this research, food waste in ITB’s canteen in Jatinangor is carried out through a processing experiment using the techniques of biodigester, anaerobic condition, without heating and without the presence of oxygen, operated in ITB area in Jatinangor. There were 2 reactors with each effective capacity of 7 m3. Based on the physical and chemical characteristics of the food waste, it showed the moisture content of the food waste for first variation is 79,8%, volatile content is 75,88%, C/N ratio is 26,23. Physical and chemical characteristic for the residue is 99,56% of moisture content, 37,32% of volatile content and 18,68 for C/N ratio. For the second variation, the physical and chemical characteristic for moisture content is 90,93%, volatile content is 87,77%, C/N ratio is 25,38. While the physical and chemical characteristics for the residues showed that the water content is 93,88%, volatile content is 60%, and C/N ratio is 25,13. From those information, it shows that food waste is potential to be processed using Anaerobic Digester and producing biogas with methane composition of 60% volume for first variation and 47% volume for second variation. Gas production is still not that optimum based on references with only 0,0262 m3/kg VS per day for variation 1 dan variation 2 for 0,0225 m3/kg VS per day. The first variation with composting process on the feedstock produced more gas and more volume of methane composition rather than the second variation, whereas no composting process are being done. text |
