This research was conducted to find out the type and concentration of heavy metal content of three different fish food brand, previously determined, and also to evaluate its effect on the heavy metal concentration in fishes. The heavy metal analysis procedure used in this research is based on the extraction method with concentrated nitrate acid (HNO3) in SNI 06-2464-1991. The heavy metal concentration in fish food are in the following order from largest to smallest, Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd > Hg. Based on those results, three heavy metals with the highest concentration in the fish food, Cu, Pb and Zn, are the focus of this research. This laboratory research also involves Oreochromis niloticus as the experiment object. The fishes were bred for 12 weeks (84 days) inside three equally sized aquariums and were fed with three different fish food brands. The fishes were fed with the amount of food equivalent to 5% of their total moist weight per day. The average body weight of the fishes eventually increases, from an average weight of 0.9426 gr to 10.7121 gr on the 12th week. On the other hand, the concentration of Cu, Pb and Zn in fish inside each aquarium, show a general decline. The statistic result of a One-Way Anova analysis concludes that the three fish food brand involved does not give a different effect on the concentration of Cu, Pb and Zn in Oreochromis niloticus. text
