Summary: | Cikakembang River is located in Majalaya that contaminated by industral effluent
discharges. Based on data of BPLHD Bandung Regency (2015), Cikakembang
River is contaminated by organic and heavy metals pollutant in high concentration.
Phytoremediation research of Pratiwi (2015) in Cikakembang River showed that
research could proceed only 5 days because of pollutant in the river water. Samples
of river water that had been filtered had better quality since the concentration of
the parameters such as ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, COD, phenol, total phosphate,
TDS and TSS had been decreased (Athifah, 2015). This study was aimed to increase
Cikakembang River water quality by phytoremediation in river water after
filtration. Cikakembang River water had been filterd by silica sand and activated
carbon media and then phytoremediation was done using water lettuce (Pistia
stratiotes L.). The research was performed in field and laboratorium scale. In
laboratory scale research, two water lettuce were planted in 2L reactor that had
been filled by Cikakembang River water. This research was assessed the efficiency
Cu and Pb removal by phytoremediation in filtered Cikakembang River water.
Based on this research results, Pb concentration in river water was <0.006 mg/L.
Cu concentration in river water at field scale research was 0.041 mg/L decreased
to 0.027 mg/L after sand filter. Cu concentration in river water at laboratory scale
research was decreased from 0.067 mg/L to 0.061 mg/L after sand filtration and
to 0.048 mg/L after activated carbon filtration. Decreasing of Cu concentration
after filtration process showed Cu removal by filter. This research also showed that
water lettuce could remove Cu concentration in river water with efficiency of 93-
95% in the 7th day. Bioconcentration Factor of Cu in water lettuce was more than
1000. It could be suggested that water lettuce was a good hiperaccumulator. |
