Summary: | Base flow is component of streamflow originating from groundwater discharge and
it takes important contributions for the streamflow during dry seasons or low
precipitation. To knowing the Cikapundung middle section watershed’s capacity
for fullfilling the hydrology function, base flow separation is performed using
smoothed minima method, which is developed by Institute of Hydrology (1980), to
find the Base Flow Index (BFI) values. By using the method, base flow is analyzed
through the BFI annual values from daily streamflow data during 1976-2012. BFI
annual value of Cikapundung's middle course is ranged between 62,3% - 96,3%.
Spearman-Conley’s rank correlation test to the 1976-2012 data series shows the
decreasing trend of BFI values. Decreasing of BFI values collaterally happens with
decreasing of base flow contribution to the total streamflow. Two factors estimated
affecting base flow variability are: anthropogenic or human activities, such as land
use changes and groundwater exploration; and natural factors, such as climate
anomaly. Reduction of base flow contribution to the total streamflow of
Cikapundung's middle course watershed brings impact in form of drought during
dry season or low precipitation. The reduction also estimated affects efficiency and
effectiveness of water treatment by PDAM Badaksinga and Dago Pakar; also it is
affecting Dago Bengkok Power Plant’s effectivity to accomplish Bandung city’s
residents need. It is necessary to manage water resources and manage watershed
intregatedly and sustainably as solution to maintain quantity, quality, and
continuity of water resources. |
