Summary: | Salman Al Farisi Education Foundation is one of education foundations in
Bandung, consists of playgroup (PG), kindergarten (TK), elementary school (SD),
and junior high school (SMP), which apply fullday school system. Learning
activity in Salman Al Farisi’s education area starts from 7:30 a.m until 4:00 p.m.
Besides learning activity, students, teachers and employees also do excreting,
ablution, dish washing, cooking, cleaning the floor, etc. Those activites generate
many types of wastewater, including black water, grey water, and kitchen
wastewater. Total of black water generation is 8,068 liters/day, while grey water
generation is 15,921.21 liters/day. However not all of those wastewater has been
managed well. Black water from some building was directly discharged into
Cikapundung Kawi River without being processed first. Similarly, the kitchen
wastewater that contains high organic matter also was discharged directly into
the river without any treatment beforehand. So the wastewater from Salman Al
Farisi’s education area needs to be improved by fixing the wastewater
management, so that it does not pollute the Cikapundung Kawi River. The
purpose of this thesis was to evaluate and provide wastewater management
recommendations as well as looked the wastewater reuse potential in Salman Al
Farisi’s education area. The evaluation of black water management is necessary
for the processing unit of black water that has not been treated and was
discharged directly into the Cikapundung Kawi River. The recommended
treatment is using a biofilter and the septictank that equipped with the seepage
channel. Grey water that generated from the buildings have met quality standard
based on the Regulation of the Minister Environment of the R.I. Number 5 Year
2014. Kitchen wastewater quality exceeded the quality standard based on same
regulation, so it needs to be treat by grease trap and anaerob biofilter before is
discharged and replace the open channel using sewer pipe. By the quantity and
distribution, grey water from elementary school building and kitchen wastewater
have the potential to be reused for watering plants and clean the buiding.
Treatment for the recycled wastewater is done by using subsurface wetland for
kitchen wastewater and rapid sand filter for the elementary school’s greywater,
which is collected in the reservoir and disinfected before use. |
