THE EFFECT OF BANANA PEEL AND LEMON GRASS FLOUR FERMENTED BYBacillus subtilis ON PERFORMANCE OF BROILER CHICKEN (Gallus gallus domesticus)

This study was aimed to observe broiler performance by using banana peel and lemongrass flour on diet fermented by Bacillus subtilis. DOC (day old chicken) as many as 175 were divided into 5 treatments are: commercial feed as control (P0), commercial feed substituted 10% by non feermented banana pee...

DOC (day old chicken) as many as 175 were divided into 5 treatments are: commercial feed as control (P0), commercial feed substituted 10% by non feermented banana peel flour (P1), commercial feed substituted 10% by fermented banana peel flour (P2), commercial feed substituted 10% by fermented banana peel and 1% lemongrass flour (P3), and commercial feed substituted 10% by both fermented feed banana peel and 1% lemongrass flour (P4). Bacillus subtilis inoculated are 25% v/v, 108 cfu/ ml and moisture content of 1: 1 w/v. Life weight gain for P0, P1, P2, P3, and P4 814,41g, 737,94g, 701,00g, 711.14 g and 692,27g respectively. P0 as the highest were significantly different (p <0.05) compared to P1-P4 variations, while P1-P4were not significantly different (p>0.05). The final rate of weight gain were not significantly different (p>0.05) between P0 (311,48g), P1 (266,09g), P2 (272,96g), P3 (306, 18g), P4 (260,57g). Feed conversion ratio were significantly different (P<0.05) between P0 (2,82), with four other variations P1 (3,17), P2 (3,17), P3 (3,10) and P4 (3,42). P35 (493g) obtained in carcass weight were significantly different (p<0.05) with four other variations P0 (553g), P1 (565g), P2 (593g), and P4 (544g), intestinal length in all treatments were not significantly different (p>0.05), while the colon weight in each treatment were significantly different (p<0.05), P0 (60g), P1 (58g), P2 (47g), P3 (52g) and P4 (49g).
