INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/35095 As technology develops, the rate of human’s activities also increases. For accomodating this rate of activities, humans create many things in order to assist and facilitate their needs, including plastic that is made from synthetic polymers. But as time follows, plastic that is made from resistant materials is difficult to be degraded naturally, causing mass generation of plastic waste that piled up in environment. Therefore, it is considered to minimize the environment pollution by creating an inovation from conventional plastic, that is biodegradable plastic. Biodegradable plastic is a kind that can be naturally degraded through physical, chemical, or biological ways. The variety of microorganisms that can degrade through this plastic is abundant. Consequently, a spesific test is needed to compares the capability of individual genus to perform an optimal degradation. This test was carried out under anaerobic conditions using a set of erlenmeyers and a shaker. CO2 production and degradation of plastic sample is observed for each bacteria genus within 30 days. All test was carried out under normal room standards. The bacteria is divided into 2 sets, which is diferentiated through the addition of dextrose as a co-substrate in the second set. CO2 that is produced is captured by NaOH which then titrated to determine CO2 production. In this research, it is found that optimal plastic degradation is carried out by genus Bacillus at 12% degradation in 30 days observation. This genus also accumulates CO2 by 150 mg/L in the ordinary inoculum and 161 mg/L in the inoculum set that is added co-substrate. text |
