In spite of its use, rare earth element is a group of elements that not been found as an element, but always in the form of compounds in nature such as monazite mineral. It demands many kind of investigation to extract rare earth element with high purity from its mineral. Solvent Impregnated Resin (SIR) is a separation method by amobilizing ligand in a polymer resin. In this experiment, 4-sebacoylbis(1-phenil-3-methylpyrazolon-5) (H2SbBP) has been sythesized as a chelating agent and been trapped into Amberlite XAD-16 through van der Waals interaction. H2SbBP, a product synthesized by Jensen method, collored soft brown. Its purification yield was 97.2%, with a melting point 129-1300C, was soluble in chloroform, and showed characteristic peak of pirazolon derivate ring and chelating ring. Capacity of XAD-16 in absorbing ligand was 248,12 mg/ g resin. Ce+3 extracted the most in pH 2.52. As a result, SIR-H2SbBP’s capacity in extracting Ce3+ using column method in 1.5 mL/minute flow was found to be 0.4071 mg/g SIR. text |
