All parts of this plant can be used as medicine. Physalis angulata is analgesic, also activator of glands function of the body. Physalis angulata consist of organic compound such as steroids, flavonoids, saponin, alkaloid, protein, polyphenol, and lipid. Physalis angulata has some active compound such as flavonoid and alkaloid as antioxidant, saponin as anticancer, and physalin B along with hpysalin D as antitumor. The aim of this research is to isolate steroid derivates from physalis angulata. Extract of physalis angulata leaves was separated and purified using vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC) and gravitation column chromatography respectively. Vacuum chromatography was carried out in stages using eluent n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol with increasing the polarity. Purification was conducted by gravitation column chromatography with the use of eluen EtOAc : n-heksane (3 : 7). The structure of isolation result was then analyzed by IR spectra and 1H-NMR spectroscopic. Results of IR spectroscopy of each fraction 5, 6, and 7 of the vacuum chromatographic show the ketone cluster’s peak at 1660,71 cm-1;1658,78 cm-1; and 1662,64 cm-1 and ester at 1780,30 cm-1;1734,01 cm-1; and 1726,29 cm-1. Fraction 6 and 7 were purified using gravitation column chromatography. The compound that has been isolated was a non-pure Withangulatin with melting point at 148-151°C. text
