Description
Summary:Solid polymer electrolyte is one type of electrolytes used to replace existing types of electrolytes. This research was conducted to assess the potential of chitosan and also to determine their effect on the structure and properties of polyblends between chitosan and polyethylene oxide (PEO), which is often used as one of components in preparation of polymer electrolyte. Polymer electrolyte was prepared by blending chitosan, PEO, and lithium acetate (LiOAc), which used as an ionic salt. To determine the effect of compositions of each component on the properties of the polymer electrolyte were characterized by functional group analysis with FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared), conductivity with EIS (electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy), morphology with SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and XRD (X -Ray Diffraction), thermal stability with DTA/TGA (Differential Thermal Analysis / Thermo Gravimetric Analysis), and mechanical properties with a tensile tester. The results showed that the ionic conductivity increases with increasing amount of lithium salt in polymer electrolyte, but the tensile strength reduces. The analysis results indicate that the optimal conductivity about 2.11 x10- Scm-1 was obtained in polymer electrolyte membrane with the compositions of chitosan 75 %, PEO 10 %, and LiOAc 15 %.
