Summary: | The increase in population will affect the increase in the amount of waste produced. One of the waste produced is High Density Polyethylen (HDPE) plastic waste. Besides the increase in population, it affects in the improvement of infrastructure requirements, one of which is the road infrastructure. In the construction of roads, asphalt is needed. In this research was conducted to determine the potential of mixing plastic waste in asphalt mixtures by partially replacing the aggregate with chopped HDPE plastic wate. Mixing the specimen is done by using a dry method in which asphalt is added directly to the mixture of stone aggregate and chopped HDPE plastic is then moldedd with a size of 10 cm diameter and 6.4 cm high. Asphalt is used in asphalt concrete wear layer (Laston AC-WC) with a variation of bitumen content ranging from 4%, 5%, 6%, 7% and 8%. Then the content variation of chopped HDPE as an aggregate of 10%, 25% and 50%. The size of chopped HDPE plastic used is retained on the aggregate size no. 8 are included in the category of fine aggregates. Marshall test performed on a test specimen to determine the optimum bitumen content (OBC), which consists of five parameters: the value of VIM, VMA, VFA, stability, and flow. OBC value for the test specimen 60/70 pen asphalt mix was 6.1%, a mixture of asphalt with aggregate substitution chopped HDPE 10% is 7%, the mixture of asphalt with aggregate substitution chopped HDPE 25% was 7.7%, a mixture of asphalt with aggregate substitution chopped HDPE 50% was 7.8%. OBC value for substitution of asphalt with aggregate chopped HDPE has a higher value than the value OBC on 60/70 pen asphalt mixture specimen. Mix with the plastic levels did not have water and heat resistance when compared with 60/70 pen asphalt mix because it has a value of Remaining Strength Index (IKS) lower. However the quality of the specimen produced better because it has an increase in the value of stability of any variation in sequence by 9.64%, 10.93% and 11.36%. Then use shredded waste plastic HDPE as a partial substitute aggregate in asphalt potentially useful in road pavement. |
