This report examines the development of a project called Islamic boarding school dormitory based on Islam in Jatinangor. The main function of this project is as a dormitory or temporary residence for students during the study period. This dormitory is also accomodate students’ pesantren program that provides additional education for the student residents. In addition, to support the social mission, this dormitory will also provide community services run mostly by student residents. The dormitory to be designed is located at Jalan Kolonel Ahmad Syam, Cikeruh, Jatinangor, adjacent to Jatinangor college area. The project proponent is an Islamic-based informal education foundation that engages in da'wah, social, and economic. This foundation through its program has a mission to develop students' self in the field of intellectual, spiritual, emotional, entrepreneurship, and social. One of the strongly emphasized values in the design is the value of self-preservation (hijab) between men and women also between occupants and outsiders. However, to increase social value, the restriction should not make the dormitory environment separated from surrounding communities. In addition, the purchase of site which was originally an open space for the surrounding community must also be accounted for by returning as much as possible un-built land to social space function. Therefore, this dormitory will be designed to have three main zones: private zones consisting of dormitory buildings and facilities, semi private zone consisting of classrooms for dormitory learning activities and academic tutorial for students around the dormitory, and public zones consisting of mosques, libraries, cooperatives, and open public spaces.
