STUDI TIMBULAN DAN KOMPOSISI SAMPAH PLASTIK SERTA PERAN PEMULUNG DALAM USAHA MINIMASI SAMPAH PLASTIK PADA TINGKAT TPS (STUDI KASUS: KOTA BANDUNG)

Plastic waste is anorganic waste with highest composition in Bandung’s temporary storage sites with percentage of 10.2-11.2% of overall waste wet-weight, or in other words, generation of 0.04-0.05 kg/capita/day or 0.23-0.34 l/capita/day. Description
Summary:Plastic waste is anorganic waste with highest composition in Bandung’s temporary storage sites with percentage of 10.2-11.2% of overall waste wet-weight, or in other words, generation of 0.04-0.05 kg/capita/day or 0.23-0.34 l/capita/day. Values of plastic waste generation and composition are expected to constantly increasing every year. That plastic waste composition mostly consists of product packaging plastic waste with percentage of 44.7-46.4% wet-weight, where some of these plastic types are taken and collected by scavengers. This study is done with field study which refers to SNI 19-3964-1994 and interview with scavengers in 9 locations of Bandung’s temporary storage sites in 9 districts which grouped based on district economic level with district’s GDRP per capita as parameter, and lastly by conducting literature study of solid waste generation studies which were done before this study. Study results show that packaging waste made from PP and Other type plastics for food products are dominating with total percentage 49-57% of overall product packaging plastic waste wet-weight in temporary storage sites. Meanwhile, average weight of product packaging plastic waste which is absorbed by scavengers in temporary storage sites based on district economic level is 4-11 kg/scavenger/day, depends on the number of scavengers operating in each temporary storage sites. With that amount of absorption rate, it is estimated that the absorption rate of product packaging plastic waste by scavengers in temporary storage areas reaches 16%, or 8 metric tons from 51 metric tons of product packaging plastic waste which generated in Bandung. Lastly, based on the result of litareture study, plastic waste generation and composition in Bandung, especially North Bandung, has a trend to increase annually, with an increase of 0.0007 kg/capita/day and 0.6% wet-weight every year.
