Summary: | Oily waste has became a problem and people always find the way to solve it. So far, to solve this problem people usually use bacteria and activated sand. One of the suggestion in using adsorption process. In this research, new material, obsidiant as adsorption is used to adsorb oil in oilywater. The obsidian used in adsorption process is the black one which is taken from Samarang-Garut. This obsidian contain silica 72,91 % whereas activated obsidian contains silica 71,67 %. The obsidian has been activated in 9300C and this process caused obsidian swell and increased the surface area. The surface area of the origin obsidian can be determined by using methylene blue (polar compound) and it is obtained 6,2 m2/ gram . The capability of adsorption can be determined by measuring the transmitans of standar oilywater in 486 nm. In this research, the origin obsidian was not good enough in adsorbing methylene blue (polar compound). The activated obsidian has capability of adsorption oil in oilywater is 0,2767 mg/g and it is greather than obsidian which is not activated. |
